The Library of Congress (of the United States of America) has chosen the official website of the NSSMC (the National Securities and Stock Market Commission) to be included into the historical collection of Internet materials related to the web archive of the ministries of the Government of Eastern Europe.
The suggestion of the Library of Congress of the USA was supported at the meeting of the Committee on Information Technology and Information Security of the NSSMC that took place on September 9, 2021. The NSSMC decided on taking the necessary organizational and technical measures to ensure the placement of the archival version of the NSSMC’s official website in the Library.
The traditional functions of the Library include the collection, cataloging, storage and maintenance of the collection materials of historical significance to ensure the development of education and science. The functions apply to digital materials including websites.
The web archives of the Library of Congress of the USA are important as they contribute to the history capturing the information that can otherwise be lost. With the growing role of the Internet as an influential medium, the records of historical events can be considered incomplete without materials that were “born digital” and never printed on paper.
The users of the World Wide Web will be able soon to view the archival version of the NSSMC’s official website on the Library of Congress portal at the link https://www.loc.gov
