Today, on November 3, 2023, Yurii Boiko, Commissioner, took part in the international roundtable «Virtual Assets and Platform Solutions».

The event was organized by the Financial Law Department of Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University and the NSSMC.

Yurii Boiko spoke about the prospects for implementing the provisions of the European Markets in Crypto Assets Regulation into Ukrainian legislation, namely the regulator’s vision and experience in launching a virtual asset market in Ukraine. This is a new draft law on the virtual asset market, which the NSSMC is working on jointly with representatives of Ernst & Young with the support of the USAID Financial Sector Reform project. The text proposes a taxation mechanism and necessary changes to the current Ukrainian financial legislation.

«The NSSMC, together with its colleagues and like-minded people, is taking a balanced, systematic approach to creating a legal framework for the proper functioning of the virtual asset market. We should all be respectful and cautious about the emergence of this new technological sector in the Ukrainian economy, as well as create the right conditions for its development», said the Commissioner.

For her part, Vita Forsiuk, Advisor to the Chairman of the NSSMC, spoke in detail about the mechanism of taxation of virtual assets, which is laid down in the new draft law of the regulator.

In addition, a memorandum of cooperation was signed today between the NSSMC and the Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University, which provides for long-term relations based on the integration of educational, scientific and practical potential. During the signing, Yurii Boiko said: «I am glad to cooperate with you and am confident that the joint developments will have effective results for both the regulator and the university».
